Onehunga’s very own Kelsey Turner has been named a finalist in the Miss New Zealand 2025 competition and is thrilled to represent her hometown on this exciting journey.
Onehunga has been home to Kelsey since she was born in 2004, growing up on Church Street. She attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School in Epsom for primary education, and later graduated from Baradene College of the Sacred Heart.
“Growing up, I’ve always believed in the power of kindness, community, and lifting others up,” she says. “I’ve seen how small acts of generosity can create ripples of change, and that’s what drives me every day. This competition has given me a platform to share my story and advocate for causes that genuinely matter – to empower young women, give back to my community, and inspire others to believe in themselves.’
If crowned, she would use the platform to expand community initiatives, support charity collaborations, and empower young women through mentorship and leadership programmes.
Onehunga is very special for Kelsey, and she loves its rich history, cultural diversity, and the strong sense of community.
“It’s a welcoming neighbourhood, and I feel so grateful to have grown up here.”
Kelsey has been active in the community, and worked at well-known businesses in the area. She also loves spending time at Onehunga Bay Reserve, making the most of the beautiful surroundings.
She recently graduated from Auckland University of Technology (AUT) with a BA in Psychology and now works at an Early Learning Centre, gaining experience for further studies in Educational Psychology. Her passion for working with children and making a positive impact in their development is a driving force in her career aspirations.
The Onehunga community can support Kelsey on her journey by attending charity events, engaging on her social media pages and supporting her through sponsorship or partnerships.
“This journey is more than just a title – it’s an opportunity to inspire others, give back to the community, and represent the values that make Onehunga so special,” she says.
