Inaugural Women in Business event1 min read
Reading Time: 2 minutesFebruary was the first of many catch-ups for the Women in Business network, which was launched by the Onehunga Business Association as part of their expansion into professional events.
The informal event was held at DNA 1st Solution in Onehunga, which was still recovering from being extensively flooded in January. Established in 2012, Anita Vaafusuaga set up DNA 1st Solution to help unemployed youth get some practical skills enabling them to find a sense of direction. From their warehouse on Hill St, they offer contract packaging, third party logistics and staffing agency solutions. They also offer jobs and training for youth with disabilities; 95% of the staff are female.
Wāhine supporting wāhine is a proven methodology for success, helping other women to encourage, help you or provide contacts to enrich your business and your career.
This network will connect people together and help identify opportunities within the business community.
Onehunga Business Association manager, Amanda Wellgreen, says “Our community is wonderful, but we need to support and mentor our women better so that we can identify leaders and ensure that we are set up for success into the future.”
It’s early days yet, but the small committee is setting up another networking event before Easter, whether it be dinner, drinks or another small day-time gathering Future events will likely include coffee catch-ups, lunch events with guest speakers, networking drinks and mentoring.
If you work in, or have a relationship with Onehunga, then they would love to see you at future events – it would be great to extend knowledge of women in business in the community.
