Ministerial visit to OHS
Minister of Defence Ron Mark paid a visit to Onehunga High School on Friday, 21st June.
He was there to inspect a combined parade of the OHS, Kelston Boys and Waitakere Colleges Services Academies. In Auckland to open the new Youth Development Unit at Whenuapai, which will run training courses for the city’s academies, the Minister then visited Onehunga to meet with some of the students who will benefit from the new unit.
After the Minister had inspected the parades he was honoured with a mass haka by the pupils. Six of the top students, two from each school, then joined the Mr Mark in the staffroom, where he spent almost an hour talking to them about their academy programmes.
Mr Mark said the visit was, “a great chance for me to meet the staff and students.” He said he is a great believer in the academies and the amazing work they do.
