Temporary ban protects lambs

Winter has barely arrived, but already planning has begun for the arrival of lambs and calves at Cornwall Park. Every year the arrival of the baby animals is keenly anticipated, with people coming from all over Auckland to see them. But these little ones can be too cute for their own good. The desire to get up close and personal with a fluffy lamb can have devastating consequences. People coming too close, loud noises, small children squealing with excitement, dogs in close proximity – a wide variety of factors can trigger a tragic outcome for a new lamb.

Planting day at the grotto

Torrential downpours earlier in the day did not deter keen locals from turning up to a planting day at Onehunga Grotto late last month.

Three hundred native trees and shrubs, provided by Auckland Council, were dug-in by the group of adults and children on the day, while another 300 were set to be planted by contractors in the more hard-to-get-to areas of the reserve.
