CAB addresses Tenancy in Awareness Week

It’s CAB awareness week and the Onehunga Citizens Advice Bureau- one of the busiest branches in the country- is focusing on the theme of Tenancy. As a free service CAB offers advice on a myriad of issues, including tenancy, neighbourhood disputes, budgeting and immigration.

Community revs up in excess of $10,000 for CLM charity

Staff at CLM Onehunga are in awe of the support they’ve had for their recent Rev-athon, held for 24 hours on March 15 and 16. Staff literally turned the gym “upside down” as bikes were moved downstairs for 16 teams of people to pedal in the name of charity.

Rev up for Children’s Charity

CLM Onehunga War Memorial Pools are gearing up for their first annual 24 hour rev-athon.  From 7pm March 15 to 7pm March 16, CLM will host an indoor cycling event to raise money for the Ronald MacDonald family rooms at Starship Hospital.

Brass disappears from park

web-image-Missing-PlaquesJellicoe Park has been the latest local facility to attract the attention of thieves looking for brass.

The damage was first noticed when Onehunga resident, Arthur McLellan, was walking through Jellicoe Park in mid February. He discovered that many of the brass plaques that line the footpath through the park had disappeared. Mr McLellan immediately contacted the Onehunga Community News; we accompanied him to the park and counted at least six missing plaques, plus two covered in graffiti.

National Sea Week- Kaupapa Moana

Many who live and work in Onehunga have proven themselves to have a keen awareness of just how important the harbour is to their lives. For those who want to develop this appreciation, The New Zealand Association for Environmental Education’s National Sea Week offers a medium for people to do just that.  ‘Healthy Seas – Healthy People’ is this year’s campaign theme which will run from March 2 – 10. It works on highlighting connections with the sea and calling on Kiwis from all walks of life to help keep our seas healthy.

‘Gardens in bloom for Hospice fundraiser’

The Heroic Gardens Festival is a great opportunity to enjoy the collective fruits of labour from gardeners from all over Auckland, while contributing to a worthwhile cause.

The garden festival is now in its 17th year and began as a way for the gay and lesbian community to raise money for Herne Bay House; a hospice for Aids and HIV patients.
