
The Heroic Gardens Festival is a great opportunity to enjoy the collective fruits of labour from gardeners from all over Auckland, while contributing to a worthwhile cause.
The garden festival is now in its 17th year and began as a way for the gay and lesbian community to raise money for Herne Bay House; a hospice for Aids and HIV patients.

December 5 saw a group of children from Royal Oak intermediate School put on a Variety Performance Show for the Royal Oak Stroke Club. A group of violinists, soloists and other talented kids represented what Principal Derek Linington calls “a smaller version of the school band.” Together they brightened up the club’s November Christmas party and even got many in the audience singing along, especially to Auld Lang Syne and Frère Jacques. Bringing the school to the party was Coordinator Heather Corlett-Kristensen’s idea.
