Local teacher almost hits $13000 target for neonatal mums

The Onehunga Community News has been following the progress of Onehunga High School’s Service Academy teacher, Elaine Webb, after she ran a gruelling 51 km to raise funds for mums of neonatal babies. Almost a month later, the mum of three has raised    
$12, 150 to equip the day-stay rooms at Auckland Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with beds and TV’s, so mums –expressing milk every two hours for intravenous feeding- can have some bonding time with baby and some rest time themselves. The run began at The Library Cafe in Onehunga and ended at the hospital. It is hoped the sponsorship effort will come to $13,000.

Local School Entertains Local Stroke Club

royal-oak-int-stroke-club-2012-xmasDecember 5 saw a group of children from Royal Oak intermediate School put on a Variety Performance Show for the Royal Oak Stroke Club. A group of violinists, soloists and other talented kids represented what Principal Derek Linington calls “a smaller version of the school band.” Together they brightened up the club’s November Christmas party and even got many in the audience singing along, especially to Auld Lang Syne and Frère Jacques. Bringing the school to the party was Coordinator Heather Corlett-Kristensen’s idea.
