It was wet and windy at the YMCA War Memorial Pools, as they celebrated their Diamond Jubilee and outdoor pool opening. The important milestone was marked on the second-to-last Saturday of November. A few brave souls ignored the cold chill outside, and jumped straight in while others chose to escape to the warmth of the indoor pools. The inside area was packed with swimmers and spectators, some watching and hopeful for the rain outside to subside, and let in a bit of sun.
Keen divers were excited to have the diving-board open and back in action. They took turns performing their best bombs, going head-to-head in attempt to execute the biggest splash from their jump. The popular aqua run was out on the water for the occassion, with children trying their best balancing act skills, in attempt to make it safely across the slippery length, without falling in.
There was a sausage sizzle on offer for a small gold coin donation, to satisfy any hungry tummies after all the play. Although the weather was not on their side, YMCA staff were satisfied with the number in attendance, and the commemoration was still an enjoyable event.
