There have been too many incidents of drowning this summer – lives lost often through a lack of understanding of basic water-safety principles. YMCA believes that water safety should be given the same priority as road safety, and that children should be taught to understand the dangers of water and how to keep themselves safe.
In an attempt to assist with this goal, YMCA Auckland is offering complimentary water safety sessions held at its four aquatic centres; Mt Roskill, Onehunga, Panmure and Glen Innes.
The sessions include what to do if you get in trouble, safety signs around water, where to swim, and how to spot a rip at the beach; as well as floating, treading water and basic water survival.
